Yancey County -- May 29, 2026: WNCTimes is passing along this message from the Yancey County Humane Society posted on Face Book this morning. We hope it helps them to find the much-needed support.
We urgently need foster homes by THIS WEEKEND for 5 litters of kittens and a litter of puppies. We provide ALL supplies needed such as food, litter, formula if needed, crates, etc. All we ask from you is the TLC and space that we are running out of.
KITTENS:
• All are eating on their own
• Doing great with litter box use
• Various ages and litter sizes
•Most need fosters committed to keeping them for 2-4 weeks depending on the litter and their ages.
PUPPIES:
• Around 5-ish weeks old
• Eating wet and dry food well
• There are 3 puppies and they MUST stay TOGETHER
• MUST stay INSIDE
• MUST be kept completely separate/quarantined from other dogs in the home due to only having one vaccine so far.
•Need a committed foster for at least 2 weeks.
We ask fosters to commit to around 2–4 weeks of fostering to help get these babies big enough, healthy enough, and ready for adoption.
Despite the multiple comments on our previous posts, we have only had ONE person step up and take a litter of kittens home. We desperately need more people willing to help. Even one spare room, bathroom, or small space can save lives right now.
We are doing everything we can, but we simply do not have the staff or space to continue safely housing this many babies with the rate of current intakes. Fostering truly saves lives, and even a short-term commitment of 2 weeks makes a HUGE difference!!
