Woman Charged with Hit-and-Run in Boone

August 27, 2025: The Boone Police Department was contacted about a hit-and-run traffic accident that happened at the junction of Shadowline Drive and Blowing Rock Road on Tuesday, August 26 at around 6 p.m.

At that intersection, a motorcycle was injured after being struck by a Toyota pickup, according to reports. Responding officers were informed by a witness that the suspect had escaped to a neighboring parking lot. Officers found the specified vehicle and the suspect.
A felony hit-and-run charge, failure to report a collision, failure to cede right-of-way, possession of an open alcohol bottle in the passenger compartment of a vehicle, and littering were brought against Banner Elk resident Susan Stelling, 41, following an investigation. After being brought before a Watauga County magistrate, she was given a secured bond of $10,000. After that, Stelling was admitted to the Watauga County Detention Facility.
