GE Aerospace (West Jefferson): Following a $53 million investment, the West Jefferson facility is scaling up its building footprint by 35,000 square feet. This expansion is set to boost production for narrowbody aircraft engines and will bring over 40 new specialized jobs, including apprentice machinists and engineers, to Ashe County this year.
BorgWarner (Henderson County): Production is expected to reach new heights at the Arden facility as it fulfills its $75 million commitment to electric vehicle (EV) power electronics, cementing WNC's role in the global shift toward sustainable transportation.

2026 marks the "year of the return" for several beloved local eateries, alongside the arrival of major national brands.
Whataburger (Waynesville): One of the most talked-about retail shifts in Haywood County is the anticipated arrival of Whataburger. The Texas-based giant is poised to replace the former Popeyes on Russ Avenue. While corporate dates are still being finalized, site preparations suggest a 2026 debut.
Village Wayside Bar & Grille (Asheville): After being displaced by the events of 2024, the historic Biltmore Village staple has confirmed its return to the district at a new location this year.
Gemelli (Biltmore Village): The popular Italian eatery officially kicks off its new chapter in February 2026 with a relocated space featuring an expanded private dining room and chef's table.
Whistle Hop Brewing (Chimney Rock): The Fairview favorite is expanding its footprint with a new taproom in Chimney Rock, slated to open this spring to serve the increasing crowds of the Hickory Nut Gorge.

Western North Carolina continues to leverage its natural assets to drive business. 2026 will see the launch of several "destination" recreation hubs.
Beacon Bike Park (Swannanoa): Boasting North America's largest pump track and a 4,000-capacity outdoor venue, this massive project is targeting a Spring 2026 grand opening, transforming a former industrial site into a world-class recreation hub.
Hatley Pointe (Mars Hill): Formerly Wolf Ridge, this boutique resort is scheduled to launch its lift-accessed mountain bike park in Spring 2026, offering nine new trails and transforming the area into a year-round destination.
Raccoon Creek Bike Park (Waynesville): Haywood County is set to open its newest recreation asset this spring, featuring a 15,000-square-foot pump track on the site of a former landfill.
Support for Small Business
Resources for local entrepreneurs remain robust as the community reinvests in its own. ScaleUp WNC will launch its 14th cohort through Mountain BizWorks in March 2026, providing growth capital and strategic mentorship to 15 regional small businesses. Additionally, the Asheville Merchants Fund is actively reviewing grant applications through early February to help local shops strengthen their operations.
