WNC -- November 4, 2025: The excitement is building across Western North Carolina as ski resorts shift into high gear, preparing for the 2025-2026 winter season.

Two major local resorts, Cataloochee Ski Area and Hatley Pointe Mountain Resort, are generating buzz with significant infrastructure and terrain upgrades aimed at enhancing the mountain experience.

Important Note on Dates

All resort opening dates are PROJECTIONS and are entirely dependent on sustained cold temperatures for snowmaking operations. WNC ski conditions can change quickly. Always check the official resort websites or local reports from wnctimes immediately before planning your visit to confirm dates, hours, and open terrain.

Cataloochee Ski Area (Maggie Valley) New Lift, First to Open Cataloochee is often the first resort in the region to open. This season features a major upgrade aimed at improving skier flow and speed.

Projected Opening Date: November 28, 2025 (Subject to weather and snowmaking conditions).

Major Upgrade: The resort is installing a brand-new Doppelmayr Fixed-Grip Quad Chairlift to the summit, replacing the older Omigish double chairlift. This significantly increases capacity and reduces wait times. Hours: Peak season hours typically run from 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM, allowing for night skiing.Note: The resort is currently conducting job fairs and testing snowmaking equipment in anticipation of the first cold snap.

Hatley Pointe Mountain Resort (Near Mars Hill) New Terrain and ModernizationHatley Pointe (formerly Wolf Ridge) enters its second season under new ownership, focusing on a multi-million dollar modernization that includes dramatic terrain expansion.
