WNC -- January 23, 2026: Winter Storm Campus Closures in Western North Carolina Community colleges and universities across western North Carolina are cancelling classes, moving to distance learning and cancelling scheduled events.
University of North Carolina at Asheville
UNCA will move into Condition 2 of its weather policy (suspended operations) beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.
The university will remain under Condition 2 until further notice.
Non-mandatory employees must leave or not come to campus during this time.
Classes are cancelled for Monday, Jan. 26, and Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Western Carolina University
WCU will be under Condition Level 2 (suspended operations) beginning Saturday, Jan. 24 at 8 a.m.
This status will continue throughout Monday, Jan. 26 at 11:59 p.m.
The closure includes all employees and students at the main campus and the Biltmore instructional site.
The operational schedule for classes on Tuesday, Jan. 27, will be reassessed over the weekend.
Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College
A-B Tech has cancelled all classes and events for the weekend.
The college is monitoring weather conditions.
Employees and students will be advised of further delays or cancellations as decisions are made.
