Can't-Miss Concerts
Music lovers are in for a treat this month. Iconic psychedelic rock band The Brian Jonestown Massacre is set to perform at the legendary Orange Peel in downtown Asheville on Saturday, September 6. This is a key stop on their North American tour and a must-see for fans of alternative and rock music.
The month also features some big names in country and folk. Jamey Johnson will be at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort on Friday, September 5. Later in the month, Grammy winner Sierra Ferrell will perform at Asheville Yards Amphitheater on Sunday, September 14, and Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy will celebrate his 10-year anniversary tour at the same venue on Tuesday, September 16. The alternative rock genre is well represented with The Pixies on Wednesday, September 10, and Stereolab on Saturday, September 20. For a local flavor, don't miss The Mountain Goats at Pisgah Brewing on Saturday, September 20.
Laughs & Live Theater
Looking for a good laugh? The Orange Peel will also host comedian Jim Norton on Thursday, September 4. On Thursday, September 11, the "Just Being Koy Tour" with Jo Koy arrives at Harrah's Cherokee Center. For a more intimate and local comedy experience, check out the secret comedy show from Don't Tell Asheville on September 5, or the popular Comedy from the Future at The RAD Brew Co. on September 7.
Theater enthusiasts have some great options as well. The North Carolina Stage Company will be presenting The Shark is Broken from September 24 through October 12. Additionally, the Parkway Playhouse in Burnsville is hosting its 3rd Annual Appalachian Playwriting Festival from September 12-14, featuring readings of new plays by regional playwrights.
Art & Culture
Museums throughout the region are debuting new exhibits and continuing popular ones. The Asheville Art Museum is a great stop, with Modern Bestiary: Creatures from the Collection running well into next year. The museum also continues to display Iron & Ink and Native America: In Translation. The Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center will host a performance by Lea Bertucci and Olivia Block on September 10 and the ReVIEWING 15: International Conference on Black Mountain College from September 26-28. The Blowing Rock Art & History Museum will showcase a variety of works, including a special exhibit on the painter Daingerfield.
