Rutherford County -- July 10, 2026: A Columbus, N.C., man already facing an outstanding true bill of indictment was arrested in Rutherford County on Monday, July 6, 2026, leading to new felony drug charges. Dennis Cornelius Hines, 38, was apprehended by a Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office deputy after allegedly attempting to discard cocaine during their encounter.
According to reports from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, a Road Patrol Division observed Hines in the Green Hill area of Rutherford County. The deputy, aware of Hines's outstanding true bill of indictment, approached him. As the deputy neared, Hines was allegedly seen throwing suspected narcotics underneath a vehicle.
The deputy arrested Hines in reference to the existing indictment. S Dennis Cornelius Hines, 38, of Columbus was arrested and charged with the following:
Felony Possession of Cocaine
Simple Possession Marijuana
Possess Marijuana Paraphernalia
True Bill of Indictment
Hines was held without bond pending his appearance before a District Court Judge
