Murphy -- Agust 13, 2026: Big changes are underway at the Valley River Humane Society (VRHS) following the appointment of new Shelter Director Marnie Fitzgerald in June 2026. Taking the helm with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, Fitzgerald was greeted by 200 hopeful animals awaiting forever homes—including several long-term residents who have waited months, and even years, for a family.
Among them is Loca, the shelter’s longest resident, who arrived at VRHS in May 2023. At four years old, Loca has spent most of her life under the care of shelter staff. Despite her love for hiking, playing with children, and cuddling, the pitbull mix has been passed over for three years.
To help long-term residents like Loca find loving homes, VRHS has partnered with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to host the largest adoption event in the shelter’s history, featuring significantly reduced adoption fees.

Hours: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM daily

Adoption Fees: $25 for dogs | $25 for cats
Details: All adoptable animals are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, and ready for adoption.
