Madison County -- February 2, 2026: A Marshall man died in a UTV crash Saturday during a winter storm, prompting renewed safety concerns.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash on Buckeye Ridge in Marshall at 10:14 a.m. Saturday. Hugh Blomeke, 76, of Marshall, was pronounced dead at the scene despite deputies' life-saving efforts after the UTV crashed over an embankment.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office urges residents to follow these safety precautions during winter weather:
* Avoid unnecessary travel. If heading outdoors, wear proper cold-weather gear and safety equipment.
* If you must venture out, inform someone of your route and expected return time. Carry a fully charged phone and emergency supplies.
* Operate UTVs and off-road vehicles only when visibility is clear and ground conditions are safe.
