Two Arrested on Felony Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop in McDowell County

McDowell County -- December 30, 2025: A traffic stop involving the North Carolina State Highway Patrol led to the arrest of two Marion residents on multiple felony drug charges earlier this month. On December 18, McDowell County Sheriff’s Deputy assisted State Troopers with a vehicle stop.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that one of the occupants, Cody Alexander Hughes, 35, had an active warrant for his arrest out of nearby Buncombe County.

A subsequent search of both the vehicle and the individuals led to the discovery of suspected quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine, along with various items of drug paraphernalia.

Charges and Bonds

Both individuals were taken into custody and face the following charges:

Hannah Hylemon, 27, of Marion:

Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance

Felony Possession of Methamphetamine

Bond: $7,500 secured
