Black Mountai -- January 30, 2026: Town of Black Mountain Monitoring Another Winter Weather Event This Weekend (Jan. 30-Feb. 1, 2026)

Black Mountain, NC — The Town of Black Mountain is closely monitoring another winter weather system arriving Friday afternoon, January 30th, 2026 that looks to bring accumulating snow to our area. The Town advises residents to prepare for hazardous travel conditions over the weekend, bitterly cold temperatures, wind chills and possible power outages.
Winter Storm Warning Issued
The US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC has issued a winter storm warning for our area that is in effect from 4:00 PM Friday, January 30, 2026 until 7:00 AM Sunday, February 1, 2026. This could be extended based on conditions. Heavy snow is expected with total accumulation between 4 and 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph. The heavy snow will make many roads impassable and may produce isolated power outages due to the weight of the snow on tree limbs and power lines. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute. Strong winds could cause damage to trees and power lines.
Snow is expected to rapidly stick to roads and other surfaces due to temperatures in the 20s. Travel conditions could deteriorate rapidly as early as Friday evening. Very gusty winds on Saturday could result in areas of blowing snow, causing very poor visibility. Town Preparations
Town departments are prepared for the winter weather to ensure public safety and continuity of essential services. Preparations include fueling and inspecting all vehicles and equipment, sharpening and fueling chainsaws and other equipment, stocking the Town’s salt supply and additional staffing for the weekend. The snow removal contractor has been placed on standby, and plow routes have been mapped and divided into six zones to improve response efficiency.
The Public Works Department will monitor the conditions during the weekend, and a decision about sanitation routes for Monday, February 2, 2026, will be made no later than Sunday afternoon.

Make sure you are stocked up on food and water for several days as the roads may be unsafe for an extended period of time given the cold temperatures.
