Mitchell County – January 12, 2026: A traffic stop in Mitchell County has led to the arrest of two individuals, Devin Douglass and Nikkole Grover, who now face felony drug charges in addition to larceny and trespassing accusations related to thefts at the Mitchell County Safe Place Thrift Store.
Douglass, 32, and Grover, 28, both of Bakersville, were apprehended after a vehicle stop initiated by Mitchell County Sheriff's deputies late Tuesday evening. The stop, according to authorities, was prompted by information gathered during the investigation into a series of thefts reported at the Safe Place Thrift Store, located on Highway 19E near Ledger.
Initially, the pair were charged with misdemeanor larceny and second-degree trespassing. However, during the booking process at the Mitchell County Detention Center, deputies allegedly discovered methamphetamine in their possession. This led to the additional charges of felony possession of methamphetamine forBond: $11,500 for Douglass Bond: $10,000 for Grover
