  • Valerie Michelle Black, 33, of Nebo, was charged with felony possession of fentanyl. She received a $10,000 secured bond.

  • Authorities said Buchanan and Randolph were transported to the McDowell County Detention Center following the traffic stop. During the booking process, deputies allegedly discovered additional drugs in Randolph's possession, resulting in the additional felony charge of possession of a controlled substance on jail premises.

The investigation continued after probation officers with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, who were already assisting at the scene, conducted a search of a residence shared by Buchanan and Black. Investigators reported finding fentanyl inside the home, leading to the felony charge filed against Black.

The McDowell County Sheriff's Office said the investigation remains ongoing. As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
