The Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) has identified the victim as Thomas Pheasant Jr. According to investigators, the fatal incident occurred at a residence on Galimore Road in Cherokee during the late hours of Friday, Dec. 19, or the early morning of Saturday, Dec. 20.
Discovery and Recovery
The investigation began Saturday afternoon after CIPD detectives received a tip regarding a shooting at an unknown location. Through intensive investigative work, officers determined that Pheasant had sustained a fatal gunshot wound at the Galimore Road home.
The investigation further revealed that the victim's body was removed from the residence and transported to an area near Newfound Gap, where it was later located and recovered by authorities.
Charges Filed
CIPD detectives have arrested and charged Timothy Jason McCoy with:
Homicide in the First Degree
Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Assault by Pointing a Gun
Two additional individuals were arrested for their alleged roles following the shooting. Derrick Jenkins and Victoria Thompson both face charges of:

Obstruction of Governmental Functions
Ongoing Investigation
The CIPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and is working in conjunction with federal partners given the recovery location within the National Park.
