Meeka, a Dutch-born Dutch Shepherd, arrived in the United States at two years old after being imported from the Netherlands.
Trained exclusively in Dutch commands, she quickly proved herself to be a skilled and dependable member of the Boone Police Department’s K9 Unit under the guidance of her handler, Sgt. Miranda Bowen.
Throughout her career, Meeka played a vital role in numerous arrests and drug seizures, contributing to the safety of our community. She also became a local favorite, frequently participating in K9 demonstrations at schools and community events across the county.
Her handler, Sgt. Bowen, remembers Meeka as “a partner with plenty of sass and even more heart.” She added, “Meeka served this department and this community with unwavering loyalty. She would protect me without hesitation and loved me without question. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner.”
In May 2024, Meeka retired from active duty, beginning a new chapter as a full-time family dog at home with Sgt. Bowen. Meeka embraced retirement with ease, swapping long shift hours for naps, treats, and the peace she earned through years of dedicated service.
The Boone Police Department extends our deepest appreciation for Meeka’s service and our heartfelt condolences to her handler, and all who had the privilege of working with her.
