This Saturday, March 14, The Hop Ice Cream Café invites the community to embrace their inner math geek—and their sweet tooth—for a celebration of Pi Day. While the mathematical constant $\pi$ (approximately 3.14) is famous for being an "irrational" number that never ends and never repeats, The Hop is turning that complexity into something purely delicious.
The event, which runs from noon to 10 p.m. at the 640 Merrimon Ave. location, aims to bridge the gap between the classroom and the ice cream counter. According to a press release from The Hop, the party will feature “the beauty of the irrational — the unpredictable, the unsimplifiable, the wonderfully chaotic.”
The celebration goes beyond just great flavors. A portion of sales during the event will go to support the Marvelous Math Club, an after-school program at Pisgah View Community Center. This unique initiative integrates math and psychology for elementary-age children, fostering both academic and emotional growth.

For pi-enthusiasts looking for more opportunities to benefit math students, the celebration continues the following day. On Sunday, March 15, a Pi(e) Fun Run will be held at 3:14 p.m. on the University of North Carolina Asheville quad (2500 University Heights).
Proceeds from the run benefit the Asheville Initiative for Math at UNC Asheville, and participants can look forward to a rewarding slice of pie at the finish line.
