Asheville -- July 25, 2026: The Asheville Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a teenager injured on Friday night.
Officers responded to the 100 block of South French Broad Avenue at approximately 9:12 p.m. on July 24 following a report of a gunshot wound victim. Upon arrival, authorities located a teen male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Mission Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the victim met an individual at an alternate location, where he was robbed and subsequently shot. The victim managed to drive himself to South French Broad Avenue to seek help.
Investigators have identified a suspect in the case: 18-year-old Elijah William Poore (born November 11, 2007). Following the incident, officers attempted to find Poore at a residence on Erskine Avenue, but he was not located.
Warrants have been issued for Poore's arrest on the following charges:
Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury
Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
Authorities note that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Police have stated there is currently no evidence connecting this shooting to the incident that took place on Biltmore Avenue the previous weekend.
