On Friday, May 8, 2026, an 18-year-old student was arrested after a handgun was discovered in a vehicle parked on school grounds.
The Incident
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to the school Friday morning following a report of a potential weapon. Deputies located a handgun inside a vehicle in the student parking lot.
The student, identified as Ahmad Jordan, was taken into custody without incident. Authorities emphasized that there was no active threat to the student body or faculty during the recovery of the weapon, and the school did not enter a lockdown.
Legal Charges
Jordan faces a felony charge for possession of a weapon on school educational property. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Buncombe County Detention Center. Under North Carolina law, the possession of any firearm—regardless of intent—is strictly prohibited on all public and private school campuses.
A Pattern of Concern
This arrest follows a similar scare that occurred just weeks ago. On April 14, 2026, two students, aged 17 and 14, were arrested at T.C. Roberson after a loaded handgun and ammunition were found. In that case, the discovery was prompted by a tip from a member of the school community.
The repeated incidents have sparked renewed discussions among parents and Buncombe County Schools (BCS) officials regarding security protocols.
