Forest City -- July 5, 2026: Two people were injured following a shooting on the Fourth of July in Forest City, leading to the arrest of a suspect facing multiple violent felony charges.

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, investigators responded to the incident on July 4. The Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division and the Forensic Investigations Unit were both dispatched to process the scene and conduct the investigation.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Woods. Following the investigation, Woods was taken into custody and is currently facing the following charges:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury (Two counts)

  • The two counts of assault correspond to the two individuals who were injured during the incident. At this time, the current condition of the victims has not been released, and authorities have not provided further details regarding what led up to the shooting.

    The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.
