APD Drones Lead to Arrest of Stolen Vehicle Suspects

Three suspects are in custody after a stolen vehicle incident that involved a brief car chase, a hit-and-run, and a foot pursuit in Asheville. The Asheville Police Department utilized drone technology to track the suspects fleeing into a wooded area.

ASHEVILLE --Asheville Police Department (APD) utilized drone technology to track down three individuals following a hit-and-run involving a stolen vehicle, according to APD.

The Midnight Chase

The incident began around 11:29 p.m. on March 20th, when officers spotted what they believed to be a stolen vehicle parked on Short Coxe Avenue. As officers approached to make contact with the occupants, the driver suddenly accelerated, striking a nearby parked car before speeding away from the scene, according to police.

The pursuit was short-lived on the ground, as the suspects quickly abandoned the vehicle in a grassy field on Bartlett Street and fled on foot into a heavily wooded area.

Suspects Apprehended

With the help of the APD Drone Unit, officers were able to pinpoint the suspects' locations in the brush. The three individuals arrested and charged in connection with the incident are:

Brown was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $15,000 secured bond issued by a magistrate.
