Asheville -- APD Press Release:June 3, 2026: The Asheville Police Department has completed its investigation into a recent South Asheville collision that resulted in the death of one driver. Following the investigation, no charges will be filed.
APD officers initially responded to the 2160 block of Hendersonville Road around 3:37 p.m. on May 26th to a motor vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 2018 Subaru, operated by Peter Tracy Gillette (8/10/1944), was traveling south on Hendersonville Road when he experienced a medical emergency and failed to stop for a steady red traffic signal. The Subaru entered the intersection and collided with a 2014 Nissan that had a steady green light and was attempting to turn left to travel northbound on Hendersonville Road.
Occupants of the Nissan were transported to Mission Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries for treatment. Gillette, the driver of the Subaru, was unconscious and transported to Mission Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries on May 29th; next of kin has been notified.
Following the death of the driver and the completion of the investigation, no charges will be filed in this collision.
