Buncombe County -- June 17, 2026: Press Release Buncombe County Sheriff's Office: A man wanted for questioning in a shooting investigation has been arrested and is facing multiple charges.
Alexander Sherman McKenzie was taken into custody just after 8:00 p.m. last night on Tunnel Road. He was wanted for questioning in a shooting incident that happened just after 6:00 a.m. June 10th. A man driving on I-40 reported another driver fired several shots into his vehicle near exit 59 (Patton Cove Road).
Alexander McKenzie is being held in the Buncombe County Detention Facility on no bond.
BCSO Detectives charged him with:
-Attempted First Degree Murder
-Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Officer
-Resisting a Public Officer
-Possession of a Firearm by Felon
-Discharge of a Firearm within Enclosure to Incite Fear
-Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property
-Injury to Personal Property
-Carrying a Concealed Weapon
-Expired Registration Card/Tag
