Yancey County -- May 5, 2026: A few "bad apples" have created a significant hurdle for the dogs at the Yancey County Humane Society (YCHS). In a Facebook post shared yesterday, the shelter announced that they are no longer permitted to walk their dogs on the greenway trail surrounding the local high school football stadium.
The shelter had been utilizing the trail on Sundays while school was not in session, providing the dogs with much-needed exercise and a break from the kennel environment. However, the high school has implemented a total ban on dogs on the property because other members of the public failed to clean up after their pets.
