Safelight Expands Emergency Shelter, Increasing Capacity for Survivors of Domestic Violence

Hendersonville -- June 28, 2026: Survivors of domestic violence, abuse, and exploitation in Henderson County will soon have greater access to emergency shelter as Safelight moves forward with an expansion that will significantly increase its capacity.

The nonprofit organization announced it is adding seven new shelter rooms, increasing the number of available beds from 40 to 56. Construction is expected to be completed in August, creating additional space for individuals and families seeking safety from dangerous situations.

For organizations like Safelight, every additional bed can mean the difference between someone finding immediate protection or having to search elsewhere during a crisis.

Safelight serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, elder abuse, and other forms of violence and exploitation. Unlike many shelters that serve only specific populations, the organization provides assistance to women, men, children, families, and older adults while offering a wide range of services designed to help survivors rebuild their lives.
