A new $17.4 million soccer park has opened in Rutherford County, a potential to draw visitors and tourism dollars.
The Legacy Soccer Park in Forest City, North Carolina, was unveiled on March 20, 2026. The 57-acre site features six soccer fields, including one championship-grade artificial turf field and five natural turf fields. It also includes two enclosed urban pitches, a clubhouse, concessions, restrooms, and office space. Night lighting, a playground, and picnic areas are also available. It is anicipated the park will serve as the home for the Rutherford County Soccer Association (RCSA) as well as local regional tournaments.
The facility is located at 520 Piney Ridge Road, Forest City. Funding came from the RHI Legacy Foundation, an appropriation from the NC General Assembly, and the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority. Destination by Design and Stitch Design Shop designed the park.
Tourism and Economic Goals
The park aims to attract regional soccer tournaments and boost local tourism. Organizers anticipate that the facility will draw thousands of visitors for tournaments, generating revenue for lodging, restaurants, and shops. Economic development officials hope to draw people from across the region to stay in hotels, shop, and dine in the area. The facility is designed to position Rutherford County as a premier destination for travel soccer leagues in the Southeast.
The facility is designed to attract regional teams, potentially including those from the Asheville area. The park is approximately a one-hour drive from Asheville, making it a viable option for day trips or a closer alternative to venues farther away.
