Rutherford County -- July 18, 2026: Law enforcement officials in Rutherford County have seized more than 13 pounds of methamphetamine, a bust expected to significantly disrupt the local drug supply and criminal networks operating across Western North Carolina communities. The operation concluded on July 16, 2026, following an investigation by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office ACE Team in partnership with the United States Postal Service.
The substantial seizure led to the arrest of Raymond Earl Johnson, identified as being from Forest City. Johnson was taken into custody after a traffic stop where K-9 Ranger alerted authorities to the presence of narcotics, leading to the discovery of the illicit drugs.
Investigators located drug paraphernalia on Johnson's person. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a large mailed package bearing Johnson's name. Upon opening the package pursuant to the investigation, investigators discovered approximately 13.6 pounds of methamphetamine.
Johnson was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Rutherford County Detention Center, where he was served with the appropriate criminal charges and received a no bond.
