Rutherford County -- September 20, 2026: A targeted narcotics surveillance operation along Hines Road led to an interstate vehicle pursuit and multiple trafficking charges across two states on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Investigators with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office ACE Team were conducting surveillance in response to community drug complaints when they spotted a burgundy Nissan Titan leaving the area. The truck matched the description of a vehicle specifically flagged in recent reports.
Detectives attempted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 221 South and Riverstone Drive after witnessing multiple traffic violations. Instead of pulling over, the driver—identified as Glenn Alexander Barrs Jr.—fled south on Highway 221 South, initiating a high-speed vehicle pursuit that crossed state lines into South Carolina.
The pursuit ended on Vassey Road in Cherokee County, South Carolina, where Barrs abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Pursuing investigators tracked Barrs through the brush and took him into custody in an open field.
A search following the arrest uncovered quantities of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, crack cocaine, and marijuana in Barrs’ possession.
Because the chase crossed state lines and concluded across the border, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office took Barrs into custody. He faces immediate charges in South Carolina, including:
