The Robbinsville Black Knights made history this year, securing their first-ever appearance in the state championship game, marking a significant achievement for the school and the community. The team's journey culminated in the NCHSAA 1A Girls Basketball State Championship, where they faced Wilson Prep. Despite a strong showing throughout the season, Robbinsville fell short in the championship game, losing to Wilson Prep with a final score of 58–44.
Earlier, Robbinsville defeated Andrews 53–38 in the 1A Girls West Regional Final to earn their spot in the title game. Local athletes also shined at the Pisgah Invitational held at UNC Asheville on March 14, where several regional records were challenged.
In other high school sports action, Franklin defeated Swain County 12–5 in baseball, while Madison beat Mountain Heritage 14–5. In girls' soccer, Thomas Jefferson Classical defeated Swain County 4–1, while T.C. Roberson dominated Freedom 9–0. Additionally, Swain County shut out Cherokee 4–0 in a recent matchup.
