Rutherford County -- A suspected fentanyl dealer is in custody following a foot chase through Spindale on March 11, 2026. The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort between the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office ACE Team and the Tri-City Violent Crimes Task Force.
Authorities were investigating the sale and distribution of fentanyl within Rutherford County when they located Chawnteat McEntire, 38, also known as "Shawn Mac," in the Dollar General parking lot on Railroad Avenue.
The Pursuit and Apprehension
According to investigators, McEntire and another male subject fled on foot toward a nearby apartment complex as officers attempted to make contact. While the second individual stopped and was detained immediately, McEntire continued to flee through the complex before being apprehended and taken into police custody.
After a search of the flight path, investigators recovered a pouch belonging to McEntire. The following items were seized as evidence:
26.54 grams of fentanyl (pre-packaged in 26 separate baggies)
0.76 grams of methamphetamine
5 grams of marijuana
$512 in U.S. currency

McEntire faces a litany of charges related to the incident, including:
Trafficking Fentanyl
Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Methamphetamine
Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Marijuana
Manufacture/Sell/Deliver/Possess Controlled Substance Within 1,000 Feet of a Park
Resisting a Public Officer
Due to additional pending charges, McEntire was issued no bond.
