At approximately 11:00 p.m. on August 10, 2025, AdventHealth Polk called the Polk County E-911 Communications Center to report that the baby had been taken to the emergency room due to serious injuries, including a fractured skull. Polk County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Detectives responded quickly to the injuries, which immediately generated suspicions of child abuse.
Regan has stated that she trusted Hoyle to look after the child she went to work. Hoyle called Regan shortly after she arrived at work to let her know the baby wasn't responding. Regan went back home and drove the child herself to the AdventHealth Polk Emergency Department.
The baby was taken to a higher-level medical facility for specialist care because of the severity of his injuries and is still receiving medical care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
After being taken into custody on August 19, 2025, Regan and Hoyle were released on a $80,000 bail each and checked into the Polk County Detention Center. Both were charged with Intentional Felony Child Abuse N.C.G.S 14-318.4(A3)
The subjects have been ordered to have no contact with the victim until the court case is fully resolved. Both subjects have made bond, resulting in their release from the Polk County Detention Center.
