Asheville -- August 17, 2026: Play for the City will bring community members together for an afternoon of games, conversation and connection during its upcoming Community Game Day, “The Rules of the Game,” on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 50 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Asheville, NC 28801.
The event is free and open to everyone and is centered around a simple idea: Meet. Play. Connect.
Organizers hope Community Game Day will provide an easy and informal opportunity for people from across Asheville to meet their neighbors, spend time together and have fun without needing any previous experience or connection to the organization.
“There aren’t enough opportunities anymore for people to simply come together and enjoy each other,” said Dr. Amieris Lavender. “Play for the City is about creating that opportunity. You don’t have to know anyone, you don’t have to be good at anything and you don’t need a reason to come other than wanting to have some fun and meet your neighbors.”
Through games and shared activities, the event is designed to create a welcoming environment where people can get to know one another and build connections across the Asheville community.
The gathering will take place at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Asheville, located at 50 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Organizers are encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to attend, whether they come with family and friends or arrive on their own.
Play for the City is also making an effort to reach Asheville’s Spanish-speaking community. Outreach materials and the event flyer are being presented in both English and Spanish, including the message that the event is free and everyone is welcome.
