Hendersonville -- May 25, 2026: UNC Health Pardee has significantly enhanced cancer patient support in the Greater Asheville Area by introducing on-site oncology physical therapy directly within its Cancer Center in Hendersonville. This integration aims to streamline recovery and make vital rehabilitation services more accessible for patients undergoing and recovering from cancer treatment.

The new on-site program offers direct, tangible benefits for patients. By providing specialized physical therapy under the same roof as their cancer treatment, patients can experience reduced travel burdens, which is particularly crucial for individuals managing fatigue, pain, weakness, and other challenging treatment-related side effects. This consolidation of services also fosters better coordination of care and can offer significant psychological relief during a challenging time.

Pardee Physical Therapy, a department of Pardee Hospital, now offers this specialized Oncology Rehab. The program is designed as a comprehensive cancer survivor healing assistance initiative, focusing on both physical and emotional well-being. It utilizes evidence-based rehabilitation approaches to help patients recover function, manage the lingering effects of treatment, and ultimately improve their overall quality of life.

In addition to the new physical therapy services, Pardee also offers an Oncology Acute Care Clinic. This clinic provides current Cancer Center patients with same-day and next-day appointments for urgent symptom management related to treatment complications. Appointments are required for the Oncology Acute Care Clinic, and it is important to note that it is not an emergency room; patients experiencing life-threatening symptoms should call 911.

In a news release, Dr. John Hill, medical director of hematology, oncology, and cancer research at the Pardee Cancer Center, said, "This new space allows us to better support our patients’ quality of life during and after cancer treatment. By integrating rehabilitation services directly into the cancer care continuum, we are removing barriers and ensuring patients receive the comprehensive, coordinated care they deserve."

The facility includes newly outfitted treatment rooms designed specifically for oncology rehabilitation, made possible in part through funding from the Pardee Hospital Foundation that supported the expansion and enhancement of on-site services.

The addition of oncology rehab services reflects UNC Health Pardee’s ongoing commitment to broadening its cancer care offerings and meeting the evolving needs of patients. These services are especially critical for breast cancer patients and others experiencing side effects such as swelling, reduced mobility, and functional limitations as a result of treatment.

To learn more or schedule an appointment, call 828-435-8340. The facility is located at 805 6th Ave West, Suite 100, on the second floor of the Pardee Cancer Center.
