On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, a multi-agency law enforcement operation took place along the entire 420-mile length of Interstate 40 in North Carolina.
The operation, named "Operation Highway Guardian," involved North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers working in conjunction with multiple other law enforcement agencies.
The campaign comes ahead of the busy Labor Day weekend travel period.
This collective effort extended from the Tennessee border in the west to the coastal port of Wilmington in the east.
Operation Highway Guardian was conducted with the stated purpose of combating human trafficking and ensuring safety on the I-40 corridor.
