Incident Overview
According to a press release from the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported domestic disturbance at approximately 5:45 p.m. on December 21, 2025.
During the encounter, the subject of the call reportedly attacked a Haywood County deputy. In response to the physical assault, the deputy discharged their service weapon, striking the individual.
Medical Response and Status
Deputies at the scene provided immediate medical assistance until Haywood County Emergency Medical Services arrived. The subject was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the deputy involved was not injured during the altercation.
Ongoing Investigation
In line with standard agency protocol for officer-involved shootings, the North Carolina SBI has been requested to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.
