Asheville -- September 16, 2026: Asheville drivers should prepare for increased traffic congestion around Brevard Road and N.C. 191 this week, from Thursday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has issued a warning regarding potential delays linked to the PGA Tour’s Biltmore Championship Asheville.
The primary areas expected to experience heavy congestion include Brevard Road (N.C. 191) and nearby routes, particularly around the Long Shoals Road area in south Asheville. While Brevard Road will remain open to local traffic and no event-related road closures are anticipated, motorists should still expect significant slowdowns. Much of the localized impact stems from tournament logistics: with no spectator parking available at the course, general spectator parking and shuttles will operate out of Biltmore Park Town Square, while volunteer parking is stationed at the Arden campus of Biltmore Church on Clayton Road.
NCDOT advises drivers who do not need to be on Brevard Road to utilize I-26 as the preferred north-south alternative when possible. The biggest delays are expected during morning and evening commute times, as well as during school drop-off hours throughout the event window.
To minimize commute delays, officials recommend planning ahead and allowing an extra 10 to 15 minutes for travel starting Thursday. This proactive approach is crucial, especially given that I-26, Brevard Road, and Long Shoals Road are already key commuter corridors in south Asheville, and ongoing construction-related lane restrictions can further compound delays.
Drivers are encouraged to leave earlier than usual for school and work commutes, avoid Brevard Road unless local access is necessary, and be aware of on-scene personnel and temporary traffic control measures if traveling near the tournament area.
