MSD French Broad River Pump Station Project Continues with Blasting for River Crossing Beginning Sept. 17

Asheville -- September 16, 2025: City of Asheville Press Release: MSD French Broad River Pump Station Project Continues with Blasting for River Crossing Beginning Sept. 17

As part of the Metropolitan Sewerage District (MSD) French Broad River Pump Station Project, blasting for the Phase 1 French Broad River Park river crossing is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept. 17 and continue through the week, with possible activity into the following week. Traffic in and around the blasting area will be stopped during each blast.

What to Expect

Wilma Dykeman Greenway Closure

The greenway closure and detour are expected to begin this week and will remain in place for approximately four months. The Contractor will begin clearing and hauling materials along the greenway to construct Phase 2 of the French Broad River Park crossing.

Lyman Street Temporary Lane Closure

The southbound lane of Lyman Street will require periodic temporary closures for staging of construction equipment and materials.

The project remains on schedule, and blasting is a critical step to move construction forward.
