⚾ College Baseball: Big South Championship Takes Over McCormick Field
A major collegiate showdown is landing in our backyard this week. Historic McCormick Field in downtown Asheville will host the 2026 Big South Baseball Championship Tournament.
The Schedule: Wednesday, May 20 through Saturday, May 23.
The Format: A six-team, double-elimination bracket featuring the top programs in the conference. The tournament field is officially set, with High Point University securing the No. 1 seed on our local turf last weekend.
The Stakes: The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the road to the College World Series.
Local Note: While the UNC Asheville Bulldogs missed the tournament cut following their regular-season finale, this multi-day event brings hundreds of athletes, coaches, scouts, and fans directly into the city, providing a fantastic boost to our downtown community.

Mountain softball teams have navigated intense brackets to secure their spots in the final round before the state championships:
Enka Sugar Jets: Enka advanced to the Regional Finals after fighting off a spectacular 6-5 fourth-round thriller against Crest last Friday night. They continue their dominant push for a state title appearance this week.
Robbinsville Black Knights: The top-seeded Robbinsville squad is rolling. They are set to host Bethany Community in Game 1 of the multi-game regional finals series.
