Morganton Man Charged After Breaking Into Marion Residence

McDowell County -- June 9, 2026: Sheriff’s Office charged 30-year-old Richard Andrew-Clayton Brown of Morganton with felony Larceny of a Firearm, felony Second-Degree Burglary and misdemeanor Injury to Real Property.

Brown was issued a $35,000 secured bond.

On Monday, June 1, deputies responded to a West Marion residence in reference to a breaking and entering. The victim stated that Brown, who is a relative, entered the home without permission and damaged a room inside, resulting in $7,000 in repair costs. Brown also removed a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun from the residence that belonged to the victim.

Brown was apprehended on Thursday, June 4, after he was reported for trespassing on property located off U.S. 70 West. The stolen firearm was also recovered at that time.
