The individual was identified as Joseph Rose, whose body was discovered on Friday, December 12, after BCSO deputies responded to a call for assistance.
According to a news release from the Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at 69 Gilbert B. Crook Road in Candler around 3:39 p.m. to aid the Buncombe County Emergency Operations Center regarding a deceased person.
Upon confirming the identity, authorities noted that Rose had been previously reported missing to the Asheville Police Department. The BCSO has stated that the circumstances surrounding the death are currently under investigation.
Sheriff’s Office Vows Thorough Inquiry
Captain Chris Stockton of BCSO District Two issued a statement assuring the community that the department is committed to finding answers for Rose's family.
“Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office personnel are working to bring answers for Mr. Rose’s family," Captain Stockton said. "We also appreciate the concern and understanding of the community members while our personnel were on scene. BCSO personnel are committed to finding answers through a thorough investigation."
Captain Stockton cautioned that these types of investigations require time and patience. "These can take time, and we appreciate the continued patience for us to follow through with that process,” he added.
The BCSO concluded its release by extending its "heartfelt condolences... to the family and loved ones of Rose."
