North Carolina -- August 8, 2026: Brittany Boltinhouse's brief reign as Miss North Carolina USA 2026 has ended after pageant organizers stripped her of the title just weeks before she was scheduled to represent North Carolina at the Miss USA competition.
Boltinhouse was crowned Miss North Carolina USA on June 28. On August 5, A Blaize Productions, which produces the Miss North Carolina USA pageant, announced that her reign had been terminated following what the organization described as a “thorough review of recently surfaced information.”
What remains unclear publicly is exactly what resulted in that decision.
Pageant organizers have not identified the specific conduct that led to Boltinhouse losing her title. A Blaize Productions said the decision was not made lightly and came after reviewing the information and consulting with the Miss USA Organization.
Miss USA Chairman and CEO Thom Brodeur provided additional context, describing the matter as involving conduct over an extended period rather than a single incident. In addressing the decision, Brodeur also said the organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia or language that strips people of their dignity.
However, neither Miss USA nor A Blaize Productions has publicly identified the specific statements, posts or actions that ultimately resulted in Boltinhouse's removal.
What Is Circulating Online
Since Boltinhouse's removal, considerable attention has focused on old social-media posts attributed to her that have resurfaced online.
Some of the posts reportedly date from several years ago and allegedly include racial slurs and other controversial language. Those allegations have generated widespread discussion on social media and have appeared prominently in coverage of Boltinhouse's removal.
While those posts are part of the controversy now surrounding Boltinhouse, pageant organizers have not publicly provided a detailed accounting identifying which material was considered during their review or specifically tied individual posts to the decision to remove her.

Boltinhouse Questions the Decision
Boltinhouse has since begun speaking publicly about losing the title.
In an interview published by the Carolina Journal, Boltinhouse said she believes her conservative political views and Christian faith may have played a role in the decision.
“As of today I believe I was stripped of my title because of my political stance and my belief system as a conservative Christian woman,” Boltinhouse said.
But she also acknowledged that she does not know that to be the reason.
Asked about the circumstances, Boltinhouse said she was working from what she currently believes and thinks, adding that she did not know for certain and saying, “I wasn't really given anything.”
A Blaize Productions has disputed her suggestion that politics or religion played a role. The organization says her political views and religious beliefs were not factors in its decision and maintains that the reasons for removing her were communicated directly to Boltinhouse before the announcement.
At this time, there has been no publicly reported lawsuit or formal legal challenge seeking to restore Boltinhouse's title.
North Carolina Has a New Titleholder
Following Boltinhouse's removal, first runner-up Myla Hadley assumed the title of Miss North Carolina USA 2026.
Hadley will now represent North Carolina at the Miss USA pageant in Miami later this month.
The change comes unusually close to the national competition and has generated significant online attention, much of it focused on competing explanations for why Boltinhouse lost the crown.
For now, however, one central question remains unanswered publicly.
The organizations responsible for the pageant have confirmed that their decision followed a review of information concerning Boltinhouse and have described broader standards expected of their titleholders. Boltinhouse has offered her own belief about what may have motivated the decision, and allegations involving old social-media activity continue to circulate.
