The charges were reported on August 27, 2026, stemming from an investigation into the alleged relationship.

According to the report, the family member contacted authorities on June 12, initiating the case. The subsequent investigation, led by Lt. Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, found that both Sydnor and Tate reportedly admitted to the accusation. Sydnor was identified as the niece and Tate as her biological uncle in the report.

Following the charges, Tiffany Adonnus Sydnor was issued a $50,000 secured bond. Corey Terrell Tate's bond was denied, as he was already incarcerated at the time of the charges.
