Asheville Tourists fans can anticipate an enhanced game day experience with the ongoing renovations at McCormick Field. A $38.5 million project aims to modernize the ballpark while preserving its historic character, with completion expected by spring 2026, according to project documents.
Fan-Focused Upgrades
Several upgrades will directly impact fans attending Asheville Tourists games. The improvements include an expanded front entrance and plaza, designed to improve entry flow with a new merchandise store, ticket office, and accessible ramp. A new premium club lounge, measuring 1,225 square feet, will feature a bar, support kitchen, and outdoor seating. Field-level group sales seating will be added on the first and third baselines, including covered buffet areas and restrooms.
To enhance viewing, a state-of-the-art video board/scoreboard is planned for the outfield wall. The stadium will also receive a new broadcast booth, A/V upgrades, and a video production room. Concessions and party areas will be improved, including new group sales zones and interior upgrades to general admission restrooms. An Asheville Baseball History Walk and overall concourse expansion are planned to enrich the fan experience.
While primarily focused on player and back-of-house improvements, upgrades such as a new 9,260 square foot home clubhouse with batting tunnels, renovated visiting clubhouse, weight room, bullpens, batter's eye, and LED stadium lighting are expected to indirectly boost the quality of play.
Project Timeline
Construction began in September 2024, and the 2025 season will proceed during the construction period. Despite a compressed 18-month schedule, the project is on track for its April 2026 opening. A neighborhood meeting was held in September regarding stadium lighting zoning, focusing on LED fixtures designed to minimize light spill.
Funding and Future Impact
The project is funded by the City of Asheville, Buncombe County, the Tourism Development Authority, and the Asheville Tourists. The city's director stated the renovations aim to bring the field up to the highest level of minor league standards, with new entrances, clubs, and amenities.
Post-renovation, the venue aims for year-round use, hosting concerts and festivals, with the goal of doubling annual visitors. The upgrades are expected to secure professional baseball in Asheville for another 20 years and boost tourism in the region.
