Man Faces Drug Charges in Rutherford County After Traffic Stop

Rutherford -- September 24, 2025: Yesterday, troopers with the NCSHP stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Troopers developed probable cause to believe there was controlled substance/s in the vehicle.

NCSHP requested the assistance of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Rutherford County Deputies arrived on scene and assisted NCSHP with the stop and search.

After a search of the vehicle, the driver, Joshua Smith was arrested and charged with the following charges:

PWIMSD Marijuana

PWIMSD Methamphetamine

Trafficking Sch IV controlled substance.

PWIMSD Sch II controlled substance

Felony Possession of Sch I controlled substance.

Carrying concealed weapon (Knife)

Carrying concealed firearm

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Driving while Impaired

*PWIMSD = Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sale, Deliver

Smith was given a $250,000.00 secured bond.
