Town of Lake Lure -- February 8, 2026: Residents of Lake Lure are breathing a sigh of freedom and relief today following a relentless series of emergencies that put local emergency services to the ultimate test. High winds and unpredictable conditions swept through the gorge, creating a domino effect of hazards that required a massive, coordinated response from across the region. From clearing blocked arteries of travel to battling flames in both the wilderness and residential areas, the bravery and stamina of our local fire crews were on full display.
The Town of Lake Lure posted the following yesterday on social media:
Thank You First Responders! Lake Lure Firefighters have had an especially busy day responding to multiple incidents throughout the community today.
Firefighters assisted power company crews with numerous downed trees that were blocking roadways. Several trees also fell onto power lines around town, resulting in power outages throughout the area. Power crews from Duke Energy and REMC are working diligently to restore service and repair downed lines and poles caused by high winds.
In addition, crews responded to and extinguished two separate fires. The first was a woods fire in Chimney Rock State Park, followed by a residential structure fire.

Both fires were successfully contained, and we are thankful to report that everyone is safe. We extend our sincere appreciation to all responding agencies for their teamwork and support, and we thank our community for their patience and cooperation during these incidents.
