WNC News -- August 10, 2026: Good news for High Country residents and leaf watchers! Visit Banner Elk announced that most of the Blue Ridge Parkway section between Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain has officially reopened as road rebuilding continues.
Currently, only a short stretch between US 221/Grandfather Mountain and the Linn Cove Viaduct parking area remains closed for the final phase of long-planned repairs. The iconic Linn Cove Viaduct itself is open, though drivers will need to approach from the north to reach it.
Best of all for local residents and autumn leaf watchers, crews are on track to have the entire section fully reopened in time for the peak October leaf season. Because our higher mountain elevations begin displaying vibrant fall colors as early as late September, this timely completion will ensure seamless scenic driving right when the autumn display reaches its height.
