ASHEVILLE, NC — The Asheville Police Department (APD) is investigating a violent incident that broke out in the heart of downtown early Sunday morning, leaving several people injured.
Around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of North Lexington Avenue. Upon arrival, police encountered what witnesses described as "mayhem," discovering multiple individuals outside suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers and emergency medical personnel provided immediate aid at the scene. All victims were subsequently transported to Mission Hospital. According to official statements from the APD, the injuries sustained by the victims are currently considered non-life-threatening.
Investigation Ongoing
As of Sunday afternoon, no suspects have been identified or taken into custody in connection with the North Lexington Avenue shooting. Detectives and forensic technicians remained on the scene for several hours collecting evidence.
