A collaborative effort between the Woodfin Police Department and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office led to the swift arrest of Louis Williams Jones Jr. just hours after a violent stabbing in Woodfin on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.
The incident, which occurred near the intersection of Old Home Road and Barton Road, involved a woman who was found stabbed multiple times. Police reports indicate the victim, who knew the suspect, was initially hospitalized with life-threatening injuries but is now in stable condition.
Witnesses reportedly observed the assault happening both inside and outside a burgundy 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. Following the attack, the suspect, Jones, fled in the vehicle. The rapid response and communication between local law enforcement agencies were critical in the subsequent apprehension.
After Woodfin Police identified Jones as the suspect and the vehicle he fled in, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office located the Mountaineer. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and took Jones into custody the same day the assault was reported.
Jones faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and larceny of a vehicle. Police have not publicly stated a motive for the assault, but they did confirm the suspect and victim were known to each other.
