The investigation into the 11th District Republican was first confirmed by Axios on April 30, 2026, and later by CNN on May 1. Reporting from NOTUS and The Assembly on May 2 has since identified that the probe centers on allegations of a long-term affair with a former deputy chief of staff.
Details of the Investigation
According to sources cited by CNN, the committee was contacted by a witness who described observing "improper behavior." NOTUS further reported that at least three sources confirmed the committee is probing a relationship with a former aide who left the office earlier this year.
The staff member in question was reportedly hired as a legislative assistant in 2021 during Edwards’ time as a state senator and rose through the ranks to become deputy chief of staff. Sources familiar with the D.C. office alleged the relationship was "not discreet" and led to friction among other aides, resulting in staff departures.
