Henderson County -- August 19, 2026: A routine patrol by the Henderson County Sheriff’s on Monday afternoon led to a brief vehicle chase and the seizure of trafficking amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Henderson County -- August 19, 2026: A routine patrol by the Henderson County Sheriff’s on Monday afternoon led to a brief vehicle chase and the seizure of trafficking amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

On Monday, August 17, 2026, deputies were conducting routine patrols near Old Spartanburg Road and Upward Road around 1:20 p.m. when they spotted a white Audi Q5 heading toward Upward Road. Deputies recognized the driver as Zachery Hugh Murray and knew his driver’s license was revoked.

When deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Murray refused to pull over, accelerated away from the intersection, and initiated a short vehicle pursuit.

During the chase, deputies witnessed items being tossed from the moving Audi. Murray eventually pulled over and was taken into custody without further incident.

Detectives with the Henderson County Drug Task Force responded to the scene and recovered the discarded items, confirming they were baggies containing illegal narcotics. The recovered substances included:

  • Approximately 84.6 grams of methamphetamine

  • 3.9 grams of fentanyl

  • Approximately six Suboxone strips

Murray was transported to the Henderson County Detention Center, where he remains in custody. He faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of trafficking methamphetamine

  • Felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle

  • Possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance

  • Possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance

  • Maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for controlled substances

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

  • Driving while license revoked
