WNC Business -- October 12, 2026: A prominent manufacturing property in northern Buncombe County has officially completed its initial transformation from an industrial production plant into a commercial recreation and hospitality destination.
Ballcrank Pickleball Club will debut to the public on Saturday, Oct. 24, with a community celebration running from noon to 9 p.m. at 115 Reems Creek Road. The event provides free general admission and parking, open court time, live local music, and food truck offerings, along with beer, wine, and café service.
The sports facility repurposes more than 30,000 square feet inside the former Balcrank Corporation headquarters, a site with decades of history producing industrial lubrication equipment. The launch serves as the first commercial anchor for the larger Ballcrank Arcade & Fairgrounds, a planned multi-use campus spanning 38 acres designed to incorporate cultural, recreational, and hospitality ventures.
Unlike national franchises backed by outside venture capital, Ballcrank is an independent venture spearheaded by four local residents: building owner and CEO Keith Davis, well known for Davis Home Furniture and Village Pub; Randy Talley, founder of Green Sage Cafe; Jim Curley; and Teri Lyng.
The ownership team designed the space around the "third place" concept—creating an accessible gathering hub separate from work and home where athletic recreation and local connection meet.
Inside the climate-controlled facility, visitors will find 12 cushioned indoor courts engineered to soften joint impact and maintain accurate bounce. The layout includes two pro-sized courts, digital video-recording setups on six courts to assist with player technique analysis, private shower and locker facilities, an equipment pro shop, and social lounge spaces.
To ensure broad community access, the venue will operate without mandatory membership requirements. Alongside annual membership plans offering booking discounts, the club features pay-as-you-play day passes, open play sessions, organized leagues, beginner clinics, and private instruction.
Attendees planning to try out the courts during the Oct. 24 grand opening must wear clean, nonmarking court shoes.
